Working in a responsible digital environment, to reduce the impact of digital technology

Lhe Isia Group is an ESN (Entreprise de Services Numériques) founded in 1996. At a time of ecological transition, the company has been committed for several years to a CSR & Responsible Digital (NR) approach. Since obtaining the Responsible Digital Label in 2020, the company has structured a catalog of services designed to support organizations in their digital transition with a responsible approach. The Isia Group believes in the potential of its collective and wants each and every one of its employees to find "their right place" within the Group. Find out more job offers.

The impact of digital technology

Digital technology alone accounts for 3% to 4% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions worldwide, and 2.5% of France's national carbon footprint*.

By 2050, without action to limit the growth of digital uses, its carbon footprint could triple, and electricity consumption linked to digital technology could double**.

The manufacture of our digital equipment consumes resources that are not infinite. Certain strategic metals used in manufacturing are under pressure and in competition not only for the digital industry, but also for the energy transition and healthcare.

Behind our equipment lies what ADEME calls the "ecological backpack". To manufacture a 2kg laptop, for example, 800kg of resources are mobilized! This notion of the "ecological backpack" can be found in many other sectors, such as textiles, the automotive industry, etc.

Exponential growth

Storage capacity, micro-processor computing power and network throughput are growing exponentially.

A web page today weighs 155 times more than it did ten years ago***. The volume of data we produce and store is multiplied by 4 every 5 years.

The design choices we make can continue to maintain or regulate this trend. We need to rethink the design of our digital services, for reasons of cost, energy and the environment!

The challenges of Responsible Digital Use

In this context, the challenge of Responsible Digital Use is to move from passive "consumer" use to conscious, enlightened digital use. It's about doing things consciously, by questioning the way we use it, throughout its entire life cycle, to reduce the "negative" impacts of digital technology as much as possible.

Within an organization, Groupe Isia sees Responsible Digital as a point of convergence between the 3Ps "People", "Planet" and "Prosperity", which are the founding pillars of CSR.

Giving meaning to digital professions

As part of its "Numérique Responsable" certification (renewed in September 2023), Isia Group plans to implement 12 commitments. Among them, the pursuit of its eco-design approach to reduce the environmental, social & societal footprint of digital services developed for its customers. Particular attention is therefore paid to integrating the NR approach into its core business.

A portfolio of consulting and training services has also been set up to support organizations wishing to make the transition to responsible digital business.

As part of a strategy of controlled skills upgrading, the company raises awareness among its teams and trains all its employees via specific training courses tailored to each individual's mission!

A career opportunity for engineers in search of meaning

Responsible Architects, Responsible Developers, Responsible UX Designers, Responsible Digital Transformation Consultants... the digital professions are transforming and bringing "meaning" to the activities of professionals in this sector!

Thanks to their mastery of tools and methods applicable to the production cycle, Developers will work responsibly on the realization of a digital project to limit the impact of the product or service they develop.

The Architect takes into account the company's strategy when processing requests. A strategy combining sustainability, social inclusion, ethics & environmental sobriety, to meet the challenges of a responsible IS!

In their day-to-day work, Project Managers apply responsible methodologies to their projects, using ecosystem tools and reference systems, and are able to identify the benefits of responsible design.
