
Responsibilities
Being the face and guardian of makesense’s mission
- Being the guardian of makesense’s mission and values and making sure that activities and processes are aligned with them in collaboration with the board of directors
- Being the main representative and point of contact of makesense for partners, and representing makesense in ecosystem events and bodies
Securing funds to support makesense’s mission
- Maintaining and growing existing donor relationships, cultivating new donors, creating and implementing new ways to achieve makesense annual fundraising goals
- Co-designing programs with donors according to makesense values and donors’ objectives in the region
- Drafting proposals and applying to appropriate calls for funding, in line with makesense strategic plans and values
- Creating strategic partnerships when necessary to complement our scope of activities and enable us to apply to broader call for proposals (consortium)
- Managing annual budget planning in coordination with the Finance & Admin Officer
Coordinating implementation and evaluation of activities
- Leading and coordinating the team on programs and activity implementation and making sure activities are aligned with the project’s objectives
- When needed, supporting the team with direct implementation of activities
- Supporting the team in developing the monitoring and evaluation methodology of their work
- Reviewing and writing financial and narrative reports for each program
- Taking an annual step back to evaluate makesense’s activities and impact as a whole and report to the board of directors
Leading the team and operations
- Ensure good team coordination and cohesion (team of 4 persons)
- Manage skills needs and recruitment
- Manage team members staffing
- Manage HR topics and processes (skills, training, leaves, remote work, salaries, etc.)
- Manage office operations (purchases, office space, tools licence, contract approval, etc.)
- Support the Admin and Finance officer in financial forecast and budget decisions
Operational conditions
- Presence in the Beirut office at least 3 days/week highly recommended
- Salary depends mostly on fundraising results and should stay within the range approved by the team and the board
- makesense Lebanon is financially and operationnally independent from makesense in France, they commit to share the same values and governance model but do not follow a headquarter-subsidiary logic
About makesense’s governance
makesense is a flat-hierarchy organization the role of director comes with leading responsibilities but not unilateral decision power. Hence, the director must be willing to work with a high level of consensus and collaboration and must share the following governance beliefs and principles.
