
Job Purpose
The Lab Technician is responsible for preparing, performing and documenting laboratory tests on textile materials according to established protocols.
The role contributes to the evaluation and development of textile materials through reliable quality testing and supports the implementation of new testing methods and laboratory procedures.
The successful candidate is organized, curious and adaptable, able to quickly learn new protocols, work autonomously in the laboratory, and collaborate effectively with the Textile Team.
Main Responsibilities
1. Laboratory Testing
- Prepare textile samples and laboratory equipment.
- Perform laboratory tests according to established procedures.
- Follow existing testing protocols while adapting to newly developed methods.
- Ensure reliable, accurate and repeatable execution of laboratory work.
2. Quality Evaluation
- Carry out quality assessments on textile materials, including color fastness, appearance, dimensional stability and other physical or functional tests depending on project requirements.
- Record, analyze and communicate test results.
- Identify unexpected results or non-conformities and contribute to investigations when needed.
3. Laboratory Organization & Documentation
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure full traceability of all testing activities.
- Document protocols, observations and results in a clear and structured manner.
- Participate in updating laboratory procedures and technical documentation.
- Organize daily testing activities to ensure projects are completed efficiently and on schedule.
4. Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the development and improvement of laboratory methods.
- Support implementation of new testing protocols.
- Participate in R&D projects involving textile materials, treatments and finishing technologies.
- Assist with laboratory and pilot-scale trials when required.
5. Safety
- Apply all laboratory safety procedures.
- Handle chemicals and laboratory equipment safely.
- Wear appropriate PPE.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized and safe laboratory environment.
Required Skills & Technical Knowledge
- Good knowledge of textile materials and fibers (natural, regenerated and synthetic).
- Basic understanding of textile manufacturing and finishing processes.
- Interest in textile treatments and material performance.
- Ability to learn and apply new laboratory protocols quickly.
- Experience using common laboratory equipment is an advantage (pH meter, spectrophotometer, ovens, testing equipment, etc.).
- Ability to follow technical procedures with rigor and consistency.
- Basic understanding of quality systems and laboratory best practices (ISO standards are a plus).
- Comfortable using Google Workspace and digital tools to document and communicate results.
Working Conditions
- Laboratory-based position involving the handling of textile materials and chemical products (appropriate PPE required).
- Occasional participation in pilot or production trials.
- Location: Biocitech Laboratory, Romainville (Paris).
