Description of the mission

CLN is looking for a new Legal Associate to join our team! This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, passionate team working at the cutting edge of climate litigation.

About CLN. The Climate Litigation Network (CLN) supports communities who use the law to protect our shared future. We believe in a safe and sustainable future for all, where everyone is protected from climate harms. We provide individuals, organisations and grassroots groups with the legal tools and strategies to ensure that major emitters develop and implement emissions reductions plans that keep us all safe.

The role. As Legal Associate, you will work closely with CLN’s partners to develop and strengthen new and existing climate cases against governments. This is a role that sits at the intersection of legal expertise and partnership, requiring both high-quality technical work and the ability to provide effective support CLN’s partners and help develop national and international networks in the field. You will also contribute to knowledge management and monitoring and evaluation, as well as representing the organisation in relevant external fora.

Remuneration and benefits include:

  • Salary from €55,000, dependent on experience and expertise

Location & working pattern. This is a full-time hybrid role based with min. 2 days/week in our Amsterdam office (preferred) or London.

  • Fully remote work is not available for this position.

Profile

Essential skills and experience. We highly value practical experience in climate litigation. At minimum, you’ll have an LLB (or equivalent) and 3+ years’ relevant post-qualification experience. Key skills include:

  • Specialist knowledge of climate litigation and comparative and international law
  • Excellent legal research, analysis and drafting skills
  • Great relationship management skills
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to a range of legal and non-legal audiences
  • Excellent written and spoken English (additional languages also helpful)
