Roles and responsibilities of the ironworker
As an ironworker, you'll work on projects in steel, aluminum or wrought iron. You'll be responsible for designing, fabricating and installing metal products for a variety of structures and buildings, for a variety of customers. Your work will include:
Carrying out designs from blueprints or independent drawings, using methods such as cutting, welding, casting and shaping.
Determining the dimensions of components and the type of finishes to be applied.
Fabricate metal parts from drawings, parts or models.
Select materials required for various tasks and check their suitability.
Maintain tools and equipment to keep them in good condition and maintain the quality of finished products.
Detect and diagnose manufacturing and operating anomalies, and correct malfunctions.
Check the quality and degree of finish of products.
Install and assemble metal structures on worksites, following instructions and supplied drawings.
Ensure the safety of workers and users on construction sites.
Carry out repairs and modifications on existing structures.
Produce quotations, estimates and invoices based on work performed.
Participate in meetings and demonstrations on construction sites.

An ironmonger's salary depends on experience and varies according to location. French ironmongers earn an average gross annual salary of between €25,000 and €40,000, depending on their level of experience.
