Roles and responsibilities of the Head of the Environment Department

As Head of the Environment Department, the roles and missions are many and varied. Firstly, I am responsible for protecting, preserving and enhancing the environment and its resources. This involves activities such as strategic planning and supervision of environmental programs, projects and initiatives. I must also ensure that appropriate environmental policies, regulations and practices are put in place, maintained and enforced. Secondly, I am responsible for managing a team and providing technical support and advice to all staff members, as well as to government authorities and agencies, and for integrating environmental issues into plans and programs. I also liaise between the various departments and the Environmental Department, and oversee the development of budgets and resources needed to implement environmental activities. Finally, I provide reports and monitor results. I also organize workshops and conferences to inform people about the environment and its issues, and encourage them to adopt more environmentally-friendly practices. To sum up, the main responsibilities of an Environmental Manager are as follows:

Plan and supervise environmental programs and projects;

Implement appropriate environmental policies, regulations and practices;

Manage a team and provide technical advice;

The salary of an Environmental Manager varies widely according to experience, qualifications and geographical location. In France, the annual gross monthly salary of an Environmental Department Manager can vary according to the years of experience acquired:

0 to 2 years: between €38,000 and €45,000 ;

2 to 5 years: between €45,000 and €50,000;

5 to 10 years: between €50,000 and €55,000;

10 to 15 years: between €55,000 and €65,000;

Over 15 years: between €65,000 and €80,000.
