The challenges of the sustainable transport sector
The transportation sector is the largest contributor to France's greenhouse gas emissions, emitting 31% of GHGs due to fuel combustion. Within the sector, it is mainly road transport that generates the most emissions (94%), followed by road traffic (54%), private vehicles (24%) and heavy goods vehicles (20%). Emissions from rail transport, air transport, domestic and international transport attributed to France, represent 4.4% of total French GHG emissions.
What is at stake in this sector ? Rethinking the way goods are transported, supporting the creation of more sober vehicles (electric, choice of sustainable materials....), increasing access to soft mobility and facilitating their use in the territories, reinforcing the logistics network of public transport.
