The Platform to Protect Whistleblowers in Africa (PPLAAF) is an NGO based in France, Senegal, and South Africa, that seeks to defend whistleblowers, as well as strategically litigate and advocate on their behalf, where their disclosures speak to the public interest of African citizens.

The Role:

PPLAAF is seeking a Communications Officer. Full-time position, based in Dakar or Paris, for immediate start. The Communications Officer will, amongst other tasks, be responsible for the following:

Develop and implement media campaigns and advocacy efforts related to investigations conducted by the organisation and its partners, aimed at enhancing whistleblower protection and maximising the impact of their disclosures.

Engage in communication on behalf of the organisation and maintain relations with its partners (NGOs, authorities, lawyers, journalists, etc.).

Develop PPLAAF’s brand and communications strategy.

Vet interviews, articles, and communications done by PPLAAF and its staff.

Work closely with whistleblowers and PPLAAF’s partners.

Development and preparation of materials for marketing and awareness-raising including briefing materials and press releases.

Report to the Executive branch.

Profile

Minimum 5 years work experience in communications and media (strategiccommunications a plus).

Experience working on Africa, experience on West Africa a plus.

Ability to work in French and English, knowledge of a language commonly spoken in Africa a strong plus.

Experience in Non-Governmental work, specifically for an investigative NGO and / or an international organisation, an administration or a media outlet.

Social media (including analytics), copywriting (for example newsletters and op-eds), and impact-driven communications.

Strong writing and editing skills.

Familiarity with Canva, Adobe products, or similar software, social networks.

Ability to handle a large workload, work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision.

Willingness and ability to travel internationally.

Good interpersonal skills.

Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
