➔ Description of the mission

Context

Founded in March 2018, the Office for Climate Education (OCE) is a French NGO based in Paris, a UNESCO center and IPCC observer.

Its mission is to promote and advance climate change education through the creation of teaching resources, teacher professional development, research and support for educational public policies. OCE leads educational projects in France, Europe, Africa and Latin America, collaborating with a vast network of national and international players (around 70 scientific and educational institutions and NGOs).

The OCE team is composed of 21 members and is based at the Sorbonne University (Jussieu campus) in Paris.

Position Overview

OCE is seeking a Science & Education Officer with expertise in climate science to strengthen our current team. This position reports directly to the OCE Head of Pedagogy and involves developing educational resources, providing teacher professional development, designing educational projects and supporting implementation in schools. The ideal candidate will combine strong climate science knowledge with educational or outreach experience. This position is intended to support the organization during a period of increased activity.

● Type of contract: one year contract renewable, with a possibility of a permanent contract (depending on needs and fundings), full-time, 39 hours a week.

● Start date: January 2026

● Monthly salary: 3 532,67€ gross + end-of-contract bonus + social benefits (70% health insurance / luncheon vouchers / 50% public transport costs)

● Workplace: Office for Climate Education, Sorbonne-University, Jussieu campus, Paris 75005 (France). Partial teleworking possible.

The position requires occasional short-term travel in France and abroad.

Key Responsibilities

In collaboration with OCE team and its international partners:

● Develop and contribute to educational resources such as teacher summaries of IPCC reports, classroom activities, scientific briefs, video clips, multimedia animations, serious games, online courses, and other innovative materials for teachers, trainers, and students at the primary and secondary levels.

● Organize and facilitate professional development opportunities, including trainings, conferences, and summer schools for educators and institutions in France and internationally.

● Build capacity within OCE teams and their partners by supporting the integration of up-to-date climate science in educational initiatives.

● Monitor and assess scientific developments in climate change and recommend updates or revisions to OCE’s educational materials to ensure alignment with the latest research.

● Support the design and implementation of educational projects both in France and abroad, including defining project objectives, developing scientific and pedagogical content, and identifying and engaging key partners.

The candidate must be available to participate in multiple national and international missions, availability for extended travel (1 to 2 weeks per mission) and willingness to travel by air are required.

Qualifications

● Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in climate science or a related field, with a strong understanding of climate system and climate change issues.

● Strong interest in interdisciplinarity approaches.

● Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in science communication (conferences, trainings, webinars, articles, etc.).

● Experience and familiarity with education systems is an asset

● Fluency in English, both written and spoken. French language skills are a plus.

● Excellent writing skills.

● Experience in setting up and managing projects it is a plus.

● International experience would be a plus, particularly in Latin America, Africa or Asia.
