What we’re looking for 👀

CarbonFarm is looking for a climate-passionate 🌳 Machine Learning Engineer to turn terabytes of satellite data into useful insights about farming practices.

Data is at the heart of everything we do, and over time there’s going to be a lot of it! So we’re looking for an engineer comfortable programming, breaking down their code into manageable and testable pieces so that it can be deployed at scale.

Responsibilities 💻

  • develop algorithms to identify farmer practices from terabytes of satellite data (SAR and optical)
  • collaborate with fellow engineers (ML, AI, Data) to develop models and algorithms that identify how farmers are cultivating their land
  • work with our chief architect to deploy code in production
  • explore different approaches in remote sensing from the scientific community (e.g. foundation models) to find the best models for our use case
  • test and validate models

Qualifications 🎓

  • 3+ years programming on a regular basis, be it through school or employment
  • a genuine problem solver, not scared of new technologies
  • master’s or PhD student in data science, computer science, remote sensing or engineering
  • proficiency in python
  • at least a basic understanding of using different data structures, be it in python, SQL or otherwise
  • proficiency in English
  • attention to detail
  • flexible and focussed on solutions
  • organised and self-sufficient

Would be nice

  • familiarity working in agile environment is a plus
  • experience using cloud-based computing (GCP or similar) is a plus
  • experience processing satellite data, particularly SAR, is a plus
  • experience modelling time-series data is a plus
