✨ Your job as Wildfire Modeling Expert

Develop wildfire risk assessments methods at difference scale (local site, cities, regions). The risk assessment covers present and future climate scenarios.

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Development of a stochastic wildfire hazard model.
  • Development of hazard maps, based on weather conditions, available fuel, topography, fire suppression (etc).
  • Maintain state of the art approach to risk modeling.
  • Support consulting missions by providing local wildfire risk assessments that combine wildfire hazard, exposure and vulnerability analysis, for different infrastructure types (rail, road, dams, etc.) and assets.
  • Support our training activity by collaborating with academia and developing training materials.

This role will work hand-in-hand with the Lead Climatologist at AXA Climate to help in boosting science as a strong differentiating factor for our business.

Profile

Experience: 5+ years of experience in the development of wildfire risk assessment modelsQualification: Ph.D. in geoscience (climate, soil science, forestry)Deep climate expertise: Strong climate knowledge and talented in science communicationGreat customer understandingTime Management skills: Rigor and capacity to plan and align with science team goalsHighly collaborative: Strong in networking with academic experts and team workStrong language skills: French and English

You have the following hard skills:

  • Wildfire modeling
  • Experience in teledetection, burned area satellite produts (Modis, Sentinel)
  • Probability and statistical analysis of extreme events
  • Experience with high performance computing
  • GIS experience using software such as QGIS
