Description of the mission

We are recruiting an Underwriter to strengthen our parametric insurance team in Paris. This role combines technical underwriting leadership, portfolio management, and broker & client engagement. You will underwrite complex parametric risks, own key accounts, contribute to reinsurance strategy, and act as an underwriting reference within AXA Climate’s Insurance Business Unit.

You will play a key role in analysing, designing, and structuring parametric insurance solutions for an international client base, both private and public. You will evaluate climate risks technically, build tailored coverage, and collaborate closely with sales, pricing/modelling and legal teams to support profitable growth of parametric business.

Your role and responsibilities within the EMEA underwriting team will include the following three dimensions.

1. Risk Assessment & Portfolio Management

  • Structure and price weather-related parametric products for EMEA clients (agriculture yield, frost, excess of precipitation, drought, hail, temperature, flood, tropical cyclone, etc.):

    • Design trigger mechanisms and payout structures adapted to clients’ needs

    • Develop models and enhance the understanding of the underlying index

    • Provide quantitative and qualitative risk assessment of the perils

  • Establish and ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines to ensure consistency and compliance with risk appetite, compliance standards, internal governance framework and legal requirements.

  • Manage and monitor risk accumulation by peril and geographic region. Identify large deals and collaborate with reinsurance partners to secure necessary capacity.

2. Product Development & Innovation

  • Grow the deal pipeline and identify new opportunities for parametric solutions.

  • Design and customize new parametric products, collaborating with pricing, underwriting and legal teams.

  • Integrate technology and data to enhance modeling, underwriting efficiency and to automate the quoting process for selected brokers.

3. Market Engagement & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Serve as a key contact for brokers, building a strong relationship and explaining complex parametric concepts.

  • Champion product adoption by helping create educational materials and conducting workshops for internal teams and external partners.

  • Support negotiations for complex deals, ensuring favorable terms and long-term partnerships with brokers and clients.


Profile

1 to 5 years of experience in underwriting, risk analysis, actuarial work, or modelling within insurance or climate sectors.

  • Scientific background (engineering, actuarial science, meteorology, statistics, or equivalent).

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into practical insurance solutions.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative mindset in an international, agile environment.

  • Fluent French and good English level is mandatory.
