About the startup

🎯 We are developing a unique electrochemical process which is 10x more energy efficient than first generation DAC and 3x better than the most ambitious second generation technologies. At megaton scale, we estimate the cost per ton to be well below $100/ton.

🚀 The startup was co-founded by Silvia & Marble.

Silvia Pugliese, PhD is a scientist and inventor at heart. During her MSc in chemistry she invented a methane capture & conversion technology and co-founded her first climate deeptech startup. Successively, she worked on developing an artificial leaf that could convert CO2 into useful products. She became part of Marble, all in with the mission to revolutionize direct air capture.

Marble is a climate tech venture studio. They partner with scientists, engineers and operators to build and scale up unique deeptech startups that slash emissions, remove carbon and cool the planet. The startup received pre-seed funding from Marble.

Our team is expanding rapidly, and it’s an exciting time to join us! We’ve got a brilliant electrochemist, top-tier advisors, and amazing collaborators on board. If you’re passionate and eager to make a real impact, good news- we have a seat reserved for you. 😉

About The Role

We are hiring a Electrochemistry/Engineering Intern who can help us build the first fully integrated prototype of our system to capture CO2!

Partnering with the technical founders, and key senior hires, your day-to-day responsibilities will entail:

  • Helping co-develop a fully working prototype in close collaboration with world-class scientists and engineers
  • Ensuring new protocols and new workflows for data collection
  • Perform state-of-the-art preparations and optimize the chemical composition of core system elements
  • Running analysis to improve the working efficiency of the system

To us, successful contributions would be measured quantitatively and qualitatively, following:

  • Month 2: Together with the technical team, you have set up an experimental system and started operations and experiments. You are capable of maintaining the system, performing experiments and are familiar with all the techniques and workflows in the lab, as shown by the technical team.
  • Month 4: You can work autonomously in the lab and are able to quickly grasp new information about the system and clearly communicate it to senior colleagues. You are independently generating high-quality experimental data and can distill them into clear findings that are communicated to the research team.
  • Month 6: You are constantly contributing to the technical development of the company and are fully responsible for some tasks and experiments in the lab. You have an exceptional grasp of the details and principles of operation in our system. You show the ability to generate important research results that are well-communicated.

What We Offer

  • Contract: paid internship, with an internship agreement (in french “Convention de Stage”)
  • Location: On-site; labs are in central Paris. Full time presence in the lab is mandatory (Paris 5ème)
  • Period: 6 months internship

You will have the opportunity to experience aspects that will set you on a completely different trajectory as an early career scientist & engineer:

  • Exploring the inner workings of an early-stage deeptech company with scientific leadership, technological vision **and market ambitions.
  • Getting immersed in actual experimental work, learn about research designed for commercialization and get exposure to the world of climate start-ups and ventures.
  • And finally - being in the front row seat, as co-initiators, of something big that we expect will shape how we reverse climate change!
Profile

Ideal Background and Skillset

The role is ideal for someone:

  • Pursuing a MSc degree in engineering, chemistry, electrochemistry, energy storage, chemical and/or industrial engineering and similar in a leading university.
  • With a strong motivation to mitigate climate change.
  • With an interest in deep tech startups, and witnessing how to go from 0 (nothing) to 1 (something).
  • With practical experience with wet and dry lab techniques (e.g. from lab courses or previous internships).
  • Past work in: electrochemical and energy storage devices and technologies, particularly in batteries systems, supercapacitors, or fuel cells.
  • Language: English fluency required. French fluency is ideal. Another language is a plus.

More importantly, we expect you to be:

  • Driven by curiosity to comprehend the technology comprehensively and willing to go the extra-mile;
  • Able to dive into unfamiliar situations, using grit and determination to troubleshoot effectively;
  • Outcomes-oriented, and a mindset of delivering, hacking your way around technical challenges.
  • Leaning toward a self-starting attitude, taking initiative on critical tasks with immediate impact, eliminating the need for micromanagement.
  • Eager to collaborate and inspire themselves from amazing technical founders operating at the frontier of science and technology commercialization.
  • Benefiting from their own autonomy to try new things and launch new ideas for the company - while being mentored by leading entrepreneurial scientists.
