AXA Climate is looking for a candidate with an applied-science mindset and with a background in hydrology and/or hydraulic engineering, to reinforce the Water Science team. The main mission of the candidate will be to support the team to develop hydrological and hydraulic models by means of Python scripting.

Profile

Key accountabilities**:**

The internship will be focusing on continuous hydrological modelling in a climate change context:

  • Develop Python scripts to set up, calibrate/validate models and simulate hydroclimatic future scenarios using hydrological model (e.g. WFlow).

  • These scripts will be applied to simulate different hydroclimatic scenarios based on current and future conditions (i.e. different climate projections), to quantify the impact of climate change on water cycle.

  • To carry out these missions, the candidate will use Python data management packages (e.g. Hydromt), hydrological modelling packages (e.g. WFlow) and geospatial analysis software (QGIS). Other modelling options can also be proposed by the candidate (mainly focusing on open-source and programmatic solutions).

  • The final tool should aim for an automatic modelling setup and calibration/validation process.

The candidate will also work on consulting missions related to water topics (water resources, flood, drought) and other event-based hydrological and hydraulic modelling activities.

Preferred experience

  • Currently studying second year (M2) of MSc in Water Engineering (Hydraulics, Hydrology) at an Engineering School or University.

  • Knowledge in hydrological modelling and/or hydrodynamic modelling.

  • Programming and data science (Python preferred).

  • Geospatial data analysis (GIS software).

  • Technical reporting.

  • Fluency in English or French.
