At Abundant Earth, we help combat the biodiversity crisis by helping the some of the biggest companies that make our world work value nature. These companies are being pressured by both regulation and nature-related risk to restore nature, but lack data access to inform their decisions.

We are building the best-in-class tech stack to quantify biodiversity to power corporate investment into nature.

We offer a data intelligence platform helping companies with their biodiversity restoration strategy by:

  • identifying lands and projects with high potential for biodiversity restoration
  • offering continuous reporting on projects through data collection

Our technology combines remote sensing approaches, and on-field measurement to collect high-quality data. We are building the best-in-class tech stack to quantify biodiversity to power corporate investment into nature.

🧑🏼‍🔬 the position

We are seeking to hire a full-time lead ecologist to boost our team’s ability to execute our mission and to get our first working product ready for customers. As we are an early-stage startup, our lead ecologist will have a lot of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Leading the development of a methodology for ecosystem restoration.
  • Leading the development of software-based ecological models to power functional components of the methodology.
  • Liaising with our science advisory team and assisting in the development of our company’s science strategy.
  • Managing requirements for the development of methodologies and models distilled from internal and external conversations.

To accomplish these responsibilities, the ideal candidate will meet these qualifications. Please keep in mind this is the ideal candidate, and we still encourage you to apply if you don’t meet all of the qualifications!

You have the appropriate educational and work background:

  • A PhD in Ecology or a related field with experience (1+ years) working in an applied science role.
  • A masters degree in Ecology or a related field with significant (4+ years) experience working in a research-forward role.
  • You have the appropriate technical qualifications:Experience in ecological modeling such as species distribution models, climate-based population modeling, or similar techniques.
  • Experience with classic statistical, machine learning, and deep learning modeling approaches as it applies to ecology.
  • Experience working with productized remote sensing data coming from sources such as multispectral, hyperspectral, SAR, LIDAR etc.
  • Experience working with ground-based species sensing approaches such as eDNA, bioacoustics, camera traps, etc in a productized format.
  • Experience working in Python and R.

  • Are familiar with working with French mitigation hierarchy regulations
  • Are familiar with mitigation hierarchy regulation in other countries
  • Are experienced working with raw remote sensing and on ground sensor data

Logistical requirements make it only possible to hire someone with the following qualifications:

  • Work authorization for the European Union and the ability to work on-site in our Paris offices.
  • Professional working proficiency in English. French is recommended but not required!
