PLACE is looking for its Lab Manager in Paris- a pro-active, fast-moving freelance role for someone passionate about communications & events management, and with a strong interest with what PLACE stands for. The Lab Manager needs to ensure two things: That the life of PLACE comes out loud & clear on a day-to-day basis (Communications) That the labs run smoothly (Events management) Communications Regular output of original communication supports to translate the life of the PLACEmakers collective the direct impact that PLACE is having as it develops the special culture PLACE is developing the progress PLACE is making towards its aims This communication might take the following forms (& others to be invented) Blog entries Social media Website development (technical support provided) Video capsules Articles in external outlets Printed supports (stickers, posters, customised objects…) Reports to strategic partners Events management Help organise the labs in Paris, including: Organise logistics of the labs (technical set-up, equipment, hand-outs, etc.) During the labs, coordinating the PLACEmakers (space-creation team, mentors, childcare etc.) Coordinate PLACEmakers : Welcome new PLACEmakers into the collective Animate the community of PLACEmakers, make sure everyone is reaching their objectives Organise informal PLACEmakers gatherings (more or less monthly) to keep the collective tight Manage the budget Manage small sums of cash-in-hand for last-minute buys Organise receipts and invoices Centralise expenditures in a global budget Weekly updates with the team on budget status and forecast adjustments Behaviour needed: Excellent team-player High autonomy, capacity to reach goals independently Excellent communicator: gets the message across perfectly in person, in writing, over the phone… At ease with time-pressure/acceleration phases Excellent project management skills- gets the job done, no matter what Agile, flexible, fast-mover Thrives on creative & human challenges High commitment to what PLACE is trying to do and to its Team Sense of humour, positivity Comfortable with remote teamwork & working from different locations Skills needed: Basic but efficient design skills (at a minimum, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) Comfortable with communication tools (Mailchimp, Slack, Dropbox, Trello…) Basic video editing (iMovie, FinalCut or equivalent) At ease with coordinating website development (WordPress editing skills) Social media campaigns Simple but effective project & budget-management skills Quick learner/taste for novelty, experimenting new ways of communicating Commitment: From early January to end of September Minimum 20 hours weekly, most of it in flexible mode- self-organized to reach Team objectives, which are set together weekly. Some time constraints: High reactivity (several times daily) on Slack as a minimum for Team coordination Weekly Team meeting – 2h Weekly Check-in with PLACE Coordinator (by phone or in person) – 2h Availability for 2-day Labs (6 in total, from mid-Feb to end of September), at week-ends mostly (during weeks where Labs happen, the hours are to be expected to be longer) Availability for some evening events (twice a month on average): informal gatherings to coordinate the collective/public information meetings… The contract will run from January to end of September. The role may evolve into a sustainable position within PLACE depending on the evolution of the project. Most of the work will be done in English, so fluency is essential (written and oral). You will be working closely with the PLACE Director, the Sourcing & Community Animator, and the Communications Lead, who coordinates the PLACE Editorial Board.
