Entrepreneurship in the territories: is it the right time?

CarbonFarm veut démocratiser la riziculture durable en donnant accès aux smallholders aux crédits carbones: • +20% smallholder profits • -30% eau utilisé • -50% émissions de méthane

CarbonFarm is looking for a machine learning intern on its mission to democratise sustainable agriculture around the world.
By 2050, the world needs to be emission net-zero. But today, agriculture is responsible for 20%.
To reduce these emissions, we need to convince millions of farmers to adopt sustainable practices. This means paying farmers more if they lower their carbon footprint. But it also requires transparency into how farmers manage their land and the emissions they produce.
Starting with rice, we are building a platform that uses satellite data to monitor growing practices and calculate greenhouse gas emissions.
To help us get there, we are looking for a machine learning intern to join our team at Station F. Their mission: identify rice fields from satellite images and forecast yields.
Separating rice fields from other crops is a tricky process. It requires a combination of radar and optical satellite data, with a particular concern for the unique time-series signature of rice as it grows over time.
This is an important step in understanding emissions: first identifying who’s growing what and where, like in the fields in the photo above!
