AXA Climate is looking for an intern who will support the team in improving its risk analysis with weather-based models, advanced statistics and satellite-based imagery processing.

Its mission will be focused on the modeling of the risk related to temperature parametric insurance products and weather derivatives to enrich our understanding of this risk in the context of global warming and high climate variability.

Working within the underwriting team and with the support of meteorologists, the intern will:

  • Contribute actively to the scientific and technical developments of temperature derivative risk understanding:

    • Analyse the sensitivity of the current modeling to climate change and trend phenomena
    • Integrate mayor climate driver outlooks into this modeling
    • Explore a variety of derivatives and generalise modeling to different structures
    • Explore alternative modelings and pricing algorithms
    • Understand market stakeholders and challenges
  • Support the underwriting of parametric products:

    • Evaluate and validate partnerships with model and risk providers
    • Explain technical concepts and share modeling approaches with team
    • Prepare technical elements for meetings with stakeholders and clients
Profile

Education:
• Grandes Écoles d’Ingénieurs (X, Centrale, École des Ponts, Mines, ENSTA, ENSAE…)
• MSc in top universities (Paris-Saclay, Dauphine, Imperial College, ETH Zurich, EPF Lausanne…)

Skills:
• Strong scientific skills: statistics, probabilities
• Python or R mandatory, Arcgis or Google Earth Engine would be a plus
• Treatment of various data sets: reanalysis, satellite, radar, etc.
• Soft skills: strong autonomy, Integrity, Team spirit

Experience / Background:
• Studies in Data Science, Statistics and Applied Mathematics.
• Knowledges in meteorology, atmospheric dynamics, and/or weather analysis will be an advantage.

Languages:
• Fluency in English required, fluency in French desired
