- About us (our company, goals) -

Founded in 2008, GebRaa is a social enterprise aiming at revitalizing Egyptian traditional crafts that have been at risk of disappearance for the last decades, threatening traditional Egyptian culture and identity and the activity of marginalized and rural communities in Egypt.

More specifically, GebRaa is an export and supply company that works on two main aspects:

  • On one hand, it provides traditional and marginalized artisans with training on both quality and design to produce innovative, green, and unique items that match the international demand, thus reaching out to new markets locally and internationally,
  • On the other hand, it enables the laters to gain visibility and customers by marketing their products on its online platform, its social media, and through GebRaa’s wide network. Joining GebRaa's network allows them to multiply their sales and have enough income to support themselves and their families.

We work with over 30 shops, galleries and hotels, as well as international organizations, and with more than 3000 marginalized artisans, including 70% of women.

GebRaa is a 2011 winner of SEED initiative (UNDP, UNEP and IUCN), a 2013 winner of World Bank Development Marketplace award and a 2016 winner of Pioneers of Egypt award by Synergos and 2020 winner of MEDUP by the EU. GebRaa is featured at local and international media outlets such as Forbes, CNN, Google, World bank and many others.

Founded in 2016, Karama Foundation for Social and Cultural Development is its developmental arm that supports the delivery of social support to artisans aiming to create a new generation of artisans through knowledge transfer.
