Visit.org is an online platform that enables travelers find and book guided tours and activities given by 50,000 local nonprofits around the globe. Visitors add unique cultural experiences to their existing travel itineraries, and participating social/environmental organizations raise awareness and revenue for their causes.

We are looking for a brilliant CTO to join our team. Must be extremely passionate about the intersection of Travel, Tech, and Social Good. Terms and compensation package are negotiable.

Job Description

This Senior Software Architect will lead the design and development of software applications with current Microsoft ASP.NET technology and C# programming language. In-depth knowledge and experience on application software development are required. Excellent design patterns and object oriented programming methodology must be employed. This is an opportunity to drive the design and architecture of an enterprise application in a disruptive early-stage education technology company focused on leveling the global playing field of college admissions.  The ideal candidate will have experience bringing products to market and building scalable applications using agile methodologies. Essential job responsibilities will include the following. Other duties may be assigned as well.

  • Lead the design and development of software applications with Microsoft .NET 4.0 framework and Microsoft C#.

  • Input in choosing the appropriate development platform for the SaaS future (may or may not be .NET) based on speed, cost, capacity, interoperability, scalability, & development talent.

  • Analyze business requirements and technical specifications, and architect solutions with high performance.

  • Work in a Rapid Application Development lifecycle with high velocity and multiple sprints.

  • Work with Senior Leadership to develop strategies for product release and modular development.

  • Serve as captain of the technology team’s ping pong, soccer, and/or foozball squads.

  • Wear New Balance sneakers and look cool with any kind of outfit – suit, slacks, jeans, tuxedo.


  • Ready to take on the monumental challenge of disrupting the college admissions process by building a community of applicants, schools, experts and students.

  • Excellent knowledge and work experience on designing and developing complex software applications.

  • Highly experienced in Microsoft MVC Framework and ASP.NET.

  • Experience with multiple languages including open-source; Ruby on Rails, Java, and Python preferred.

  • Experienced in n-tier design, separating presentation layer, business logic layer and data access layer.

  • Strong expertise in programming software applications with .NET framework and C#

  • Experienced with frontend development with JavaScript, HTML and jQuery

  • Experience with MS SQL server is required.

  • Proficient on using Microsoft Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server.

  • Experienced with Agile software engineering processes and methodologies.

  • Must be a fast learner and self-starter. Be able to come up to speed on new applications and technology in a very short amount of time.

  • Must be details oriented, with strong analytic skills and problem solving skills.

  • High degree of self-motivation. Must be able to plan and execute work both independently and as a team member.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage several tasks at once.

  • Penchant for creativity and using code to express individual ideas.


  • BS degree in computer science or systems engineering required; MS in CS preferred.

  • At least 5 years of direct work experience on software development with .NET framework and C#; knowledge of other languages.

  • Experience building software for online communities preferred.

  • Comfort with working with sales, finance, and HR dorks.
